You Tested My Faith and Won

By Venesha

Can I ask you a question?
Why did he have to pass on?
I flashback to February 15th
The first thing I heard were screams
I jumped out of bed quickly

I saw him just lying there
no longer breathing in air
I don’t remember calling 000
But the ambulance arrived
Its lights were dark blue and red

There was nothing they could do
Mum and I pleaded to you
You tested my faith; did you win or lose?
‘Cause you took him like a thief
That was the start of my grief

Then, I had panic attacks
I had a very tight neck,
and I found it so hard to breathe; it felt
like drowning in an ocean
but wanting to be on sand

I won’t forget the nightmares
They caused me to feel quite scared
Years ago, he painted my walls mint green
But all I could see was grey
I asked, ‘Will it end one day?’

Yes, they went from grey to green,
and the sand is in my feet
I also understand why he passed on
You tested my faith and won
You tested my faith and won
