These Things

By Monica Hart

Holding Back:
Michael Angelo
Carving of stone
All the souls straining as one
But alone
Madness:
Nowhere to be seen
Friends smile
And mostly understand
The rest you’re on your own with
Grabs at your heart
Then your head
Then you’re gone
with a sigh of relief
you snatch and sink in
the idea that really, you’re ok
But it keeps coming back
And when it does
It’s enough to scare you away
Intimacy:
Want it
Need it
Long for it
Right now it comes with a price
It’s so nice
But
I’m not in a position to fork out with my heart
Disappointment:
Way down low in your stomach
Full and heavy in your heart
Staring at the carpet
Confusion:
Scrambled over rocks
Crabs scuttle
Dodge incoming waves
Around your knees
They well around
Then pull you out to sea.
