The Vulnerable

By Joanne Goodfellow

THE VULNERABLE

For so long
I wanted to
crack
you open
and watch
you unveil
into the lucid
flow
of the air

I wanted to
watch
your body
turn flaccid
and weak
see your hands
shield the light from
your eyes
I wanted to see
your eyes
see
your pain
reflected back
to me

what is connection
without pain

what is more human
than our suffering shared
