Thanks to a Song

Sitting here sinking
in ways to display my bad behaviour
as a momentary lapse of reason.

My paintbox colours the blank pages
while Elvis Costello croons
And elevates this all to something more innocent

An essence of love
instead of a damp, grubby, corner of shame.
