Sail Away

By Joanne Goodfellow

SAIL AWAY

As you lay across the three-seater
dining chair
slurred
I trace the ripples, on your forehead
with a biro […]
blue for the ocean
where the waves are formed
by gusts of wind, moving across the surface
a transfer of energy
much like the arctic tundra
that blew a gale […]
straight through your heart

I draw a solo sail boat
hopelessly fighting against
the swell of your past
as futile
as Romeo and Juliet’s
final act of love
you too
reduced to poison
or was it the knife
that lead you
to your fate
