Laying it Down

By Monica Hart

Laying it Down

Why won’t someone talk to me
All I hear is the clock on the wall
The baby is sleeping upstairs in his cot
And my insides are starting to crawl.

Give me a voice or a face
Or a hand
Cause I’m feeling betrayed and deserted
I want to go mad
But I’m feeling too sane
Pump it up then my quench will be thirsted.

And there I am smiling
Up there on our wall
and you’re out on the town with our friends
Trust me, you said, then preceded to take
My innocence right there and then.

Why do I feel so bad, and pretend
That I don’t,
because I’m so cool and elite?
I’ll lay in the grime anytime and feel good
Just watch me
You know that I would
