Harbinger of Doom

By Andrew Ballard

My recollection

of past

traumatic events

has scalloped edges

no clear lines

each scalloped pouch

of memory

nuanced in time

a harbinger of doom

as dark things

approach me

clarity and peace

entangled

in my inner mind

shackled by mental debris

I’m determined

to break free

let the beating drums

of peril and gloom

be silenced

lay claim to healing

as hope

lights my path.
