Expressed Memories

By Ineke Hill

EXPRESSED MEMORIES
Do you remember
something at all – of significance
or – nothing at all?
Whatever memory – it should mean
something to someone.
The Netherlands is where I was born
spawned by a couple
negligent, abusive – seldom scorned.

I’m alive but didn’t start living
until the demise of offenders.
How many wretched,
individual lives must I live
to freely exist?
The quality of life I now live
must prove beyond doubt
the heinous crimes committed during
my entire childhood and thereafter.

The uncertainty of my future
prompts me of my past.
I’ll not breakdown but make the effort
now to stay around.
It’s up to me to speak when ready.
Scared with D.I.D.
I must take care of multiple selves
to truly survive.

Emotions targeted with skilled thought
(under great duress)
allow suppressed subjects to be voiced.
All identities.
Memories could emerge but be clear
on how to view them
without further hurting our joined hearts
and tormented minds.
Only lack of love can hurt like this!
