Battle Scarred Mind

By Lorraine Moore

BATTLE SCARRED MIND.
You cower in the corner
of the brightly lit room
I reach out to comfort you
yet I see that feral look in your eyes
words scream from your lips
lying down on your belly
hands searching for the invisible gun
we wait together once again
for the memories to subside
the feral look replaced with
those blue sparkling eyes
I hold your trembling body
can I continue to share
this impossible nightmare
we call a life
will the past never be
erased from your
battle scarred mind?
