THE SHIFTS OF A HOUSEWIFE by Ineke – mindshare Awards 2017 Winner Published Poet

I’m all set with arms outstretched

to warily face today’s race.

I need to wash unclean clothes

as opposed to using the hose.

I need to hang-up rinsed clothes

letting them dry in the sunned sky.

I’m all set with arms outstretched

to warily face today’s race.

I need to layout dried clothes,

detached, and standing by to fold.

I need to flatten out pleats

prior to pressing with some heat.

I’m all set with arms outstretched

to warily face today’s race.

I need to wear rubber gloves

washing dishes so hands aren’t rough.

I need to make slept-in beds

where weary shapes have laid their heads.

I’m all set with arms outstretched

to warily face today’s race.

I need to sweep and mop floors

after chairs are covered outdoors

I need to deal with these jobs

in order to not chase the mob.

I’m all set with arms outstretched

to warily face today’s race.

I need to note daily news

with a view to not be confused.

I need to investigate

the understated rate of hate.

I’m all set with arms outstretched

to warily face today’s race.
