‘Before I die’ by Ineke

I swear I will not cry

while you try to spy

at the life that’s gone by.

I would like to say goodbye

before I die.

‘Before I die’ by Ineke

Ineke’s family migrated from Holland when she was six. Up until she was twenty-three she experienced sexual, physical and emotional abuse from trusted loved ones, resulting in an attempted suicide and three breakdowns. Ineke suffers from Dissociative Identity Disorder (D.I.D.) – previously known as Multiple Personality Disorder – for which she’s currently undergoing psychotherapy sessions to ‘connect’ the frequent voice ‘switching’ and varied handwriting associated with D.I.D. These voices are represented in her writing. She also suffers from panic attacks, obsessive-compulsive disorder, time loss and total amnesia before the age of ten years, with varying gaps throughout her life thereafter.
