The Station – Community Mental Health Centre

A non government not for profit community mental health initiative.

About the organisation:  Open to all people, not just those with a mental illness

“The Station” opened in May 1998 in Wallaroo South Australia. The idea was formed by a Mental Health Advocacy Group, with the Mood Disorders Association as an auspice body. The premise was provided by the District Council of the Copper Coast and is located in the Old Wallaroo Police Station.

Services:

– An art program that runs on Mondays. Have had two successful art exhibitions and have sold several works of art.

– A healthy eating and cooking program – lunch is provided Tuesdays and Thursdays for 13 to 30 people at a cost of $4 for a two course meal and a bottomless cup of

tea, coffee or juice for $1.00

– Workshops at “The Station”, including medication information, assertiveness, health information, sexual harassment awareness and quit smoking.

– Outings, the members of “The Station” enjoy outings; these include tenpin bowling,  wildlife parks, museums, op shops, the beach

and visiting other groups
